There are 16 default triggers, however, when manipulated can turn into 30+ different types of triggers. Depending on your type of reward program, not all of the triggers may be available.
There are 7 parts to creating a trigger with some variation depending on the type of trigger:
- Name Your Trigger – Choose a name for the Trigger.
- Activate The Trigger – This part is the rules of each trigger. They will be discussed in detail below.
- Trigger The Actions – Each trigger has different settings and, depending on the trigger, you may trigger the action “Before”, “On” or “After” the trigger rules created in part 2 are reached.
- SMS, Email, Smart Or Both – Choose to send a Smart Campaign, Email, SMS, or Both.
- When Triggered – Choose the campaign or campaigns to send.
- Time Restrictions –If you would like to have Time Restrictions to prevent broadcast sending at odd hours, turn this setting "On." Default time frames will display if set up in Create A Reward Program. If these settings are not currently turned "On" for your reward program, please contact your account representative or send us a support ticket.

Activate This Trigger - The Rules
- Transaction Trigger: Click this button to create a transaction trigger. A transaction trigger has four tokens. These tokens are displayed inside of the “Create a Broadcast Campaign” HTML editor.
- Transaction Status Change: If using a reward program that places transactions into a “Pending” status or if “Shipping” products, this trigger type will display. When creating the trigger, choose which status change will trigger the campaign. You may check all of the status changes or one status change. Selecting all allows you to link all status changes to one campaign, however, you may need to create multiple triggers to send a different broadcast message for each individual status change.
- Survey Trigger: If you would like to trigger surveys, choose how often you would like to send a survey by sending every “X” transactions over “X” hours, days, weeks. A common setting is to send a survey every “1” transaction and not to send more than “1” every 90 days.
- Based on Inactivity: If you would like to send an inactivity trigger, choose how often you would like to send the trigger. A common setting is to send one inactivity trigger after 30 days and attach an offer that expires in 7 days. The inactivity trigger allows you the option to “Repeat Inactivity Trigger” found at the bottom under Part 5 “When Triggered.” If you would like, have this trigger repeat every 30 days or, even better, every 90 days and choose to repeat the trigger 5 or 10 times. If repeating the trigger every 90 days, you can create 3+ inactivity triggers that each send a different offer every 90 days that expires in 7 days. Sending inactivity triggers in this fashion will guarantee the member is constantly touched with different offers every month. Once the member makes a transaction, the inactivity time count, starts over.
- Based on Reward Point Goal: To create a reward point goal trigger, select the point goals you would like to have included in the trigger. You can select one or all point goals. If you will be adding the offer inside of the broadcast, you will need to create a trigger for each reward point goal. A common method, when using multiple reward point goals is to check all point goal offers and create one reward point goal trigger attached to one campaign. The campaign should state the member has reached a new reward point goal level and to open their profile to view the new offer. When point goal offer is reached, the offer automatically displays in the member’s profile. The campaign is not required to be sent.
- Based on a VIP Level Expiration: If your reward program is a VIP program, you may send members a reminder notification that their VIP status is about to expire. You can choose to send this broadcast “Before” or “On” the expiration date.
- Based on Average Dollar Value Spending: If you would like to send the trigger based on the average dollar spending, choose the minimum and maximum range, choose the amount of time to take the average over, and choose the amount of transactions required. This trigger type can be used to target low, medium, and high range spenders with specific offers. If used correctly, this is a great tool to increase member spending.
- Based on Average Time of Day: The Based on Average Time of Day trigger uses the minimum and maximum hour day range, the amount of transactions required, and the time frame to take the transactions over. This type of trigger is good to send members specific offers based on their buying patterns. For instance, if a member visits in the morning, send them morning offers. If a members spending pattern is in the evening, send them evening type offers.
- Based on a Promotion or Offer Expiration: The promotion and offer expiration trigger has tremendous power. Choose to send an offer expiration reminder for each offer individually, or a generic broadcast that sends for all offers as a whole. The most common practice is to send a broadcast for all offers letting the member know they have an important offer about to expire and to open their profile. A common practice is to send an inactivity trigger every 10 days and 3 days before offer expiration. Note, DO NOT attach an offer to an offer expiration trigger campaign or the offer will re-issue and the time frame will start over. Instead, redirect the member to their member profile to view their offer.
- Based on Members Date Field: The member’s date field is used to send triggers on members Birthdays, Anniversaries, Friends Birthdays, and the "Join Date" anniversary. The first step requires you to choose the member list, and next choose the type of member date field you would like to use. Finally, select the segments, if any, or leave unchecked to send the entire member list.
- Based on a Specific Date: Use this trigger to send on specific dates and holidays. Choose the date and select the member list(s) or segment(s) you like to participate in the trigger.
- Based on a Link Being Clicked: Use this trigger as a follow-up broadcast when a previously sent campaign link has been opened. Choose the campaign where the link resides, and choose the link.
- Based on a Email Campaign Being Opened or Not Opened: Use this trigger setting to send a follow-up email if the campaign is opened or not opened. First select the campaign you would like to track, and under part 3 “Trigger The Actions” there are additional settings to send the trigger “On the opening“, “After the opening”, or “Not opened.”
- Incomplete Profile: Choose to send an incomplete profile trigger after collecting an email or mobile number to receive extra member data. A common setting is to send this trigger 24 hours after the member joins the program. It’s a good idea to offer bonus points to complete the profile.
- Refer A Friend: The referrer friend trigger sends a thank you message when the member refers a friend.
- Refer A From Joining: The referr a friend joining trigger sends a campaign to the referrer after their friend joins and makes their first purchase. The campaign can inform the referrer the friend joined and you may attach an offer and/or inform the referrer they received bonus points. There are a few different token types that can be found when creating a broadcast.
